Ugly Sweater Shoppe – the ONLY figurative language resource you need this season!
I love projects around the holiday time! Who has time to extensively plan? I want to know that students are absorbing information and let it SHOW!
Really its a win-win. Much more quiet work time to get all the last minute pieces finished while also focusing on great work. This is an ultimate favorite project – Ugly Sweater Shoppe.
We always study poetry in December so this ties well with what we have learned and makes great use of before holiday time. It really acts as a component of my assessment as drawing these on their own really challenges them to look critically at examples and decide what is best!

Make your own Ugly Sweater Shoppe – Figurative Language
Print off copies of the book for each student (or work in groups!)
Each of the sweaters had to use a different types of figurative language that we had learned.
We actually did a “mock” runway to show off and read our sweater descriptions and identify which type of figurative language was used.
Two versions of this project are included to scaffold students as well. One with notes for which type of fig. language to include and one for students to freely choose.
I had students underline specifically which type so I could see clearly and for quick grading. Back and white copies gave students freedom as well to really decide what direction they wanted to take it in!

Here’s an example from the donutlovinteacher and her students!
If you want this time of project without the holiday constraints – this version uses clothing for ANY TIME of year!
