Back to School COVID read alouds for students – Coronavirus explained at a level for younger brains

Back to School Read Alouds look different this year. Maybe you’re looking for some COVID read alouds for elementary students.

Coronavirus can seem scary and read alouds and social stories are SO IMPORTANT and can help.

A Covid read aloud may be just the thing to help younger students understand social distancing, masks, and other procedures to keep safe.

This wearing masks at school post had some great crafts, activities, and FREEBIES (hello…mask chants!) to help normalize other school social distancing measures.

Books about coronavirus are already here and a great place to start for back to school 2020 whether it be in person or virtual.

This might be a great chance to record yourself reading for students and send ahead of school so they know what to expect.

What to look for in a Back to School Read Aloud??

First – I want to caution that COVID read alouds have some potential negative aspects that we need to look at critically. Ms. Duane has a highlight called “COVID book” that explains everything you need to know when looking for a coronavirus read aloud.

Next, we want a back to school read aloud that is short, engaging and packed with social emotional content for students.

For 2nd grade a back to school read aloud might look different than a 4th grade back to school read aloud. Content and maturity of students directly affects which book should be chosen but especially a covid read aloud!
