Finding Time for a Virtual Morning Meeting or Daily Check-In with Students

Morning Meetings are an essential part of student relationships and a foundational element to the classroom.

I didn’t start out doing morning meeting each day but quickly learned after I implemented it that.

If you want a HUGE list (literally my favorite and best ideas for virtual morning meetings) that works in person too – grab this Morning Meeting Ideas LIST!

How to do morning meeting?

If you are looking for morning meeting ideas or virtual morning meeting activities.

This Blow Your Socks Off Morning Meeting post is for you!

A Morning Meeting even virtual has SO MANY BENEFITS!

  • dedicated time for social emotional learning
  • protected time not for content that can help with executive functioning skills
  • student leadership opportunities and more!

You may be asking yourself how can I find time for a morning meeting?

Where do I find time for a morning meeting?

I was there!

I didn’t believe I could veer for one minute off content for fear of falling behind and losing precious time to get ready for state testing.

Can I just bury my head in sand, now?! I’m so glad I came around because truly connecting with students, building student relationships made all the difference.

Here are 3 ways to fit in Morning Meeting when you don’t have time:

  1. It Doesn’t have to be in the Morning….

Yes, the name is deceiving. Anywhere you can find time to have a virtual or in person morning meeting you should do it.

It can be the few minutes after lunch.

The start of the afternoon

The end of the day.

What works for you and your students….best of all you get to work to figure out what fits your class.

2. Virtual Morning Meetings or Check In Forms can be a start.

Using a Daily Check in Form or sheet is a good way to start off with students.

It starts building connection and helps a virtual morning meeting.

This virtual morning meeting post has a link to a FREE form for digital check-in.

At a glance, you can notice right away, who might need attention that day and find time to check-in.

3. Start with 1 morning meeting component

We’re all about saving time here, right?!

Usually my morning meetings have 5 parts we did. Traditional morning meetings have 4 key pieces. Try just one – once your class has that down, and it goes quickly….add another.

Start small and your time commitment won’t grow!
